Robots
Monday Pictures recently had the idea to make simple shorts using Matt's collection of Robots. We figured it would be easy to light and shoot, and we could use a program (and website) in which you can type whatever dialogue you want and record the playback of it. The website even lets you pick how you want the voices to sound. I like the pompus british guy voice.
Boy oh boy, Just had a great weekend in New York City. Stacey had a terrific show w/ Marc Sutton and I had two shows at the Del Close Marathon. Friday night - Stottlemeyer 8pm Saturday night - Washington Generals 11pm
the Stottlemeyer show was Great. I have been coaching the team for 7 months and they asked me to sit in with them at the festival. Lots of Rick Springfield references and crazy fun.
the Generals show had its ups and downs. It was still fun, but I think it started out a little rough. We had great group moments. the Games were top notch.
Saw the Simpsons movie on Sunday. This makes me laugh more than anything right now
Also, Jed and Tere are the greatest people in the world. Thanks for letting us stay over all weekend.
I've recently been introduced to this band and I find them very enjoyable. Their first EP is available at emusic and itunes and is worth picking up. This is the first song on that EP.
We had Lord Wessex visiting us again the past few days. Watching Arlo and Wes play gave me an idea for a web-serial I want to create. It will consist of Arlo and Wes playing with voices dubbed over speaking melodramatic dialogue. I'd call it Dog Hospital. Look at these two jerks. Too cute.
Belle & Sebastian like dylan in the movies I haven't liked much B&S after If You Are Feeling Sinister. They've gotten poppy and fun, and normally I like poppy fun music. I guess I just like my B&S sad with a capital frowny face:(
Cold War Kids - We Used To Vacation I have been impressed with this band since I saw them open for Tapes 'N Tapes over a year ago. This song has been on my 'most played' list in itunes since I got it.
the video was made by a fan. not the best, but listen to how good this song is.
Monday Pictures wanted to use 4th of July to our advantage, so we went to North Beach and shot a short film that we could use the firework display. This is what we came up with:
someone who 'graduated' the iO training program with me and was a friend of mine at ComedySportz o' so many years ago, went on to be a writer for Saturday Night Live. She has since quit that job and created this little web-isode. It's pretty damn funny. Good Job, Liz!
Marry Me, the debut album by St Vincent gets released tomorrow (July 10th) and I can't stop listening to it. It's got an odd Kate Bush, but melodic quality with plenty o' experimentation.
I have been out of work for well over a month now and it's starting to make me feel worthless. I knew I would get lazy because of it. I'm still coaching and performing pretty much every night of the week... it's just the having no money part that's getting to me. But, this is the land of the free and the home of the brave.
too bad I can't find much good stuff for free and I'm not quite brave enough to forge my own way into a career that I enjoy.
Over the weekend we decided to take Arlo to the Montrose Dog Beach to give him some quality running around crazy puppy time. While there we met plenty of other crazy mutts (this was the first time we went to the beach on a weekend afternoon and it was jumping with people and dogs) and played all sorts of fun games. Generally, while there Arlo will approach the water and go in a little, but always turn around and run up and down the beach. This time, Stacey went into the water with a stick and told Arlo to 'come get it'. To our surprise, he did.
Soon enough we were teaching the little guy to swim. He liked to bound out of the water as fast as he could once he got the stick or ball or whatever toy we used to lure him into the water. But eventually he started running in and swimming without us being in the water.
Radiohead No Surprises I don't know if there is any other band that has shitty homemade music videos uploaded to youtube than radiohead. It's a shame. I love the videos radiohead has actually made themselves. like this one:
Originally, I wanted to put up the song Polyethylene (pts 1 & 2) but the videos I found on youtube were so crummy, I couldn't bring myself to do it. OK Computer is my favorite radiohead album, and No Surprises is probably my favorite song on the album.
but Polyethylene, a B-side to the OK Computer Sessions is a damn fine song as well.
People I've talked to are either crazy about these guys, or don't think they're very funny. I'm in the crazy pile. I saw clips of these guys last year from the HBO Aspen Comedy Festival clips. I like what they do. I suppose it's similar to Tenacious D, but these guys are actually funny.
