New Favorite Band

Holy Crap.
I had planned on interviewing Bishop Allen tonight at the Beat Kitchen,
but it kept getting pushed back and seemed like more of a pain than anything -
so it never ended up happening.

I did get to the show and saw this band:
the Teeth

and was amazed by their whole set.
I enjoy this band a lot.

Perfect Song 21

the Kinks - dedicated follower of fashion.

a lot can be said about the kinks and ray davies and how great a contribution they have made to pop music.

but I'll let this song speak for itself.

Robert Smigel & Conan O'Brien

Holy Crap.
This show should have been picked up.
Lookwell starring Adam West as a washed up TV star who used to play a cop who thinks he's still a cop.

it's a shame this pilot wasn't picked up.

Space Future

Two weeks ago I helped Ben's wife with her party planning job. She works for a company that goes all out and designs very specific things for parties. This party had the theme of the Future through 1960-eyes. It was all very Dr. Who/Star Trek and it was a lot of fun. Ben was my faithful Robut and he dubbed me Captain Lee Viathon.

Monster

Don't worry folks. I've got him. He can't get out of this. He'll stop terrorizing everything in his path.

Won't you, buddy?

Perfect Song 20

Pixies dig for fire

I have been a fan of the Pixies since junior high. When I discovered the album Doolittle I knew I had to get everything they ever released. A year or two later they put out Trompe Le Monde and quickly broke up. Luckily they reunited and I finally got to see them live.
Dig For Fire (from the album Bossanova) is probably my favorite:

Menomena

The album Friend And Foe by Menomena is one of my top 5 releases of this year so far. I just found this video and it makes me love the album even more.

Perfect Song 19

Superchunk hyper enough
I may be a little too excited to see the Ponys, the Mountain Goats AND Superchunk this Wednesday at the Metro... but I've been going through my Superchunk collection and realized just how good and fun they are.

Now, I would never call me the world's biggest Superchunk fan. I think they recorded the same song about 20 times (they all sound the same) but some of those versions of that one song are FANTASTIC... PLUS - they have a sense of humor, which is why I'm giving Hyper Enough my perfect song 19 slot.

Broken

So Friday evening I call a local thai eatery and place an order to pick up. I knew it was time to eat and that my blood sugar was getting low, so I thought I'd walk a block and a half to pick up some thai food and everything would be square.
Well, one forgets how fast the effects of low blood sugar can sometimes hit you. I got the the restaurant and got my food without incident, but on the way home... I felt my knees start to give out. That's never a good sign. When I have severe low blood sugar while walking, that's the first thing that goes. It hasn't happened that often... maybe 7 times in my life. I've had my juvenile diabetes since I was a juvenile. I got it 18 years ago. yikes.
Anyhow - I'm walking with Arlo AND a bag sack of thai food while my knees are giving out. My only goal is to get home and eat to correct my low blood sugar. At some point along the way I injured my foot. I honestly cannot remember how it happened (since my blood sugar was low) but when I finally got home, ate and had a chance to look it over I thought it was broken.
All under my big toe and along my arch was swollen and getting bruised (and it hurt like hell). I thought something was broken for sure.
I finally went to the hospital last night. Nothing is broken, just a sprain and a twisted muscle. I'm on Motrin. Motrin. That's it. Dammit.

Perfect Song 18

the Good Life lovers need lawyers
I have been a fan of the Good Life since they released the album Black Out in 2002. That album alone is one of my favorites for moody, CURE-like indie rock with some heart-wrenching songs.

The follow up EP to that album Lovers Need Lawyers (and its title track) are my Perfect Song for this week. I enjoyed the song a lot the first few times I listened to it 3 or 4 years ago, but what helps to make this song perfect is the video that goes along with it.

Guess Who is One Year Old Today..?

Our little satan-baby arlo. He's nowhere near a satan baby, but being born on 6/6/6 means he should be a little monster.

Apparently he made his TV debut over the weekend. I haven't seen it yet, but I was there for the taping, so I know he's the cutest boy in the world.

Happy Birthday li'l Blarlo.

surround myself with the best people in the world

Wow.
A while back my iPod was taken out of my bag. I suppose it was my own fault, but I left my bag in what I thought was a safe place... either way, it was taken.
Knowing my own personal heartbreak about the matter, this year for my birthday a bunch of my friends banded together and purchased a brand new iPod with an added branded message.

I have never felt more like Jimmy Stewart. My friends are the greatest people in the world.
